MY STORY

Luis Angel Ibáñez was born in Mexico City. He comes from a family of musicians, where guitar and singing is a favorite part of his family tradition. Luis’s inclination for music, started at early age “…. Music, has pretty much made, how I am!” he self-taught to play guitar, by imitating his brother and sister learning the instrument from their Grandfather. By the time he was 13 years of age, he was fully committed to practice and rehear for a kids TV program that was broadcast ed on TV every Friday evening. This experience lasted for over a year and a half. It was precisely here, through this experience, and the close friendship he had nurtured with friend, and school mates, where he reaffirm his vocation for music. At the age of 15 he got invited to join an Andean Musical group, and even though he was underage to play at Peñas, and Club, it helped him to consolidate his music abilities. At 16 years of age, he started formal music training, while paralleled studying high school. Upon entering university he decided to take a break from school, and travel to Germany. Once in Europe, he traveled intensely through most of Western European countries, playing music, to support his traveling. Once returning back to Mexico, he finished a degree from UNAM, (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico). In 1990, he obtained a BS in Petroleum Engineering. The same year, he moved to Austin TX, where almost immediately he starting playing music to support himself. In 1996 he finally decided to do music full time, activity that he proudly does ever since. At present he is part of Trio Los Vigilantes, music director of Austin Latin All Stars, ProjecTango, and Luis Ibáñez Trio. He has travel to play many scenarios, including, most western European countries, Cuba, Japan, Honduras, Morocco, and his native Mexico.  He has collaborated in the arrangement, recording and production of six CDs, and working in one more CD’s that are in the recording process.
